Assaulted Man in Benfleet Field Leads to Arrest in GBH Case

Benfleet, Essex – Police responded to a distressing incident in a field off Manor Road earlier this week, where a man in his 30s had been attacked and left injured. Authorities were alerted by concerned passers-by who heard the victim pleading for assistance. The man suffered an arm injury, a bite, and a head wound during the assault.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a man fleeing, but law enforcement officers were able to swiftly apprehend a suspect in connection with the incident. A 52-year-old man from Benfleet was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) within 20 minutes of the crime being reported. He has since been released on conditional bail as investigations continue.

Expressing his shock at the incident, Andrew Sheldon, a Conservative candidate running for the Tarpots ward, commended the police for their rapid response in making an arrest. He urged anyone with information about the assault to come forward and assist in the investigation.

Initial reports suggested that there may have been an attempted theft of the victim’s dog, but Essex Police stated that they do not currently believe this to be the case. The victim, who suffered multiple injuries, was attacked with a metal object while in the field off Manor Road.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Essex Police confirmed the arrest of the 52-year-old man and detailed the injuries sustained by the victim. The investigation is ongoing, and the public is encouraged to contact the charity Crimestoppers anonymously with any relevant information.
