Attack: Four Indian Students Injured in Alarming Knife Assault Linked to Neo-Nazi Group in Russian Medical College

UFA, Russia — Four Indian students were injured in a violent knife attack that took place at a medical university dormitory in Ufa, according to the Indian Embassy in Moscow. The incident, described as shocking, has drawn international concern regarding the safety of foreign students in Russia.

The embassy confirmed the injuries in a post on social media, stating it is in communication with local authorities. Officials from the Indian consulate in Kazan have been dispatched to Ufa to assist the victims. The exact circumstances of the attack are still under investigation.

Reports indicate that a 15-year-old attacker, believed to be affiliated with a banned neo-Nazi group, launched the assault, injuring six individuals in total, including two police officers who responded to the scene. The group, known as the National Socialism/White Power Crew, was labeled a terrorist organization by Russia’s Supreme Court in 2021, following its involvement in numerous extremist activities.

Eyewitness accounts and local media highlight the brutal nature of the crime. Witnesses claim that the suspect shouted nationalist slogans associated with the Holocaust during the attack. Disturbingly, a Swastika was allegedly scrawled on a dormitory wall with blood, contributing to the grim atmosphere described by those present.

The All India Medical Students’ Association has expressed grave concern over the incident, reflecting growing anxiety within the medical community and among Indian families with students studying abroad. This incident has reignited discussions about the safety of international students in Russia and the necessity for better protective measures.

In a separate development, the Indian government has been reported to the Parliament about the increasing number of violent attacks against Indian students studying in various countries. Data indicates that between 2018 and 2025, 17 students lost their lives in Canada due to such incidents, with additional fatalities recorded in the United States and Australia.

The Indian government has emphasized its commitment to the safety of its citizens abroad. It monitors incidents involving Indian students closely and coordinates actions through its missions in foreign countries to ensure thorough investigations and accountability for violent acts. Indian officials aim to maintain regular contact with students, offering guidance and support throughout their studies overseas, including safety advisories.

As investigations into the Ufa attack continue, there remains a pressing need for enhanced measures to ensure the protection of international students, a vulnerable demographic in any country.
