Attack Victim in Tucson Community Vigil Dies – Suspect Faces Murder Charge

TUCSON, Ariz. – A tragic incident shook the community of downtown Tucson as a man, Jacob Couch, succumbed to injuries sustained from a brutal attack earlier this month. Couch, 32, had been fighting for his life since the attack, but tragically passed away shortly after a community vigil was held in his honor outside Banner University Medical Center.

According to court documents, Couch and his wife were sitting on a bench in downtown Tucson when they were approached by a man, later identified as 25-year-old Daniel Michael. An altercation ensued, leading to Michael allegedly attacking Couch with a machete-type knife, resulting in a severe neck wound that proved to be fatal. The injury was so deep that it cut an artery in the back of Couch’s neck in half, causing extensive bleeding and critical damage.

Following the attack, Michael was identified and located by authorities at his home, where a search warrant turned up incriminating evidence, including the weapon used in the assault. Despite initially denying involvement, Michael later admitted to confronting Couch but claimed to have no memory of the events due to heavy drinking. He now faces charges of aggravated assault and potentially murder following Couch’s death.

The senseless act of violence deeply impacted the Tucson community, prompting an outpouring of support for Couch’s family. Many expressed shock and sadness over the tragic events that unfolded, with community members coming together to show solidarity and compassion.

In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe account was set up in Couch’s name, raising an impressive amount to support his family during this difficult time. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violence and the importance of coming together in times of adversity to support those in need.
