BOSTON, MA – A man from Leominster, Massachusetts has been indicted by a federal grand jury for his alleged violent outburst on a flight bound for Boston. Francisco Severo Torres, 33, faces charges for attempting to open a plane door and stabbing a flight attendant in the neck. According to court documents, Torres was a passenger on a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Boston when the incident occurred.
Witnesses reported that Torres tampered with a starboard side door, which led to the flight crew believing he posed a threat to the aircraft. In a subsequent confrontation, Torres allegedly made threatening statements and attempted to stab a flight attendant with a broken metal spoon. He was restrained by passengers and flight crew and taken into custody upon landing in Boston.
The charge of interference and attempted interference with flight crew members and attendants using a dangerous weapon carries a potential sentence of up to life in prison, up to five years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
