Weston-super-Mare, England – A former boxer was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 19 years for the brutal murder of 46-year-old Nick Bryan in November 2021. Adam Bowers, 35, carried out the attack at a flat in Rydal Road, Weston-super-Mare, displaying an extreme level of violence, as described by Judge Martin Picton during the sentencing at Bristol Crown Court.
Bowers had been released from jail the day before the murder, after serving time for criminal damage. On the afternoon of the incident, he went to the flat with two women, with whom he started drinking. Upon the women’s return from buying more alcohol, they brought Mr. Bryan back to the flat, leading to an argument and the subsequent violent attack by Bowers, which resulted in Mr. Bryan sustaining severe injuries.
Police and paramedics found Mr. Bryan on the kitchen floor with serious injuries, and despite being taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, he passed away two days later. Described as a gentle soul by his loved ones, Mr. Bryan’s sister, Holly, expressed the profound impact his death had on their lives, highlighting the difficulty of having to make the decision to turn off his life support.
Bowers was finally held accountable for his actions, with Avon and Somerset Police expressing a sense of relief and satisfaction at his imprisonment. Detective Chief Inspector Roger Doxsey commended the challenging investigation process, emphasizing the importance of proving Bowers’ responsibility for Mr. Bryan’s death, given the complex circumstances surrounding the case.
The impact of this tragic event on Mr. Bryan’s family and friends is immeasurable, with his sister urging for his memory to be kept alive through the recognition of his wonderful character. The community hopes that Bowers’ incarceration will prevent any future instances of such horrific violence, bringing a sense of closure to those affected by the loss of a beloved individual.
