Brooklyn Park Man ‘Just Lost It,’ Fatally Shoots Woman at Apartment Complex: Charged with Second-Degree Murder

Brooklyn Park, Minn. – In a tragic incident on Monday, a 29-year-old man, James Nedeau II, faced charges of second-degree murder for fatally shooting a woman, Deana Doely, at a Brooklyn Park apartment. According to reports, the victim called 911, reporting that Nedeau had assaulted his father and was threatening her before the fatal shots were fired.

Police arrived at the apartment complex on the 5800 block of 74th Avenue North, where they discovered multiple 9mm shell casings near Doely’s body. Further investigations revealed that Nedeau had proceeded to the fifth floor of the building, firing six rounds into another apartment, fortunately without injuring anyone present.

Witnesses detailed chilling encounters with Nedeau prior to and during the shooting incident. Reports describe Nedeau brandishing a handgun in an elevator, announcing his intent to harm his father and others. Another witness heard Nedeau’s concerning statements as he fired into an apartment on the fifth floor, indicating a deep sense of anger and impulsivity.

Following the shootings, Nedeau fled the scene but subsequently called 911 to surrender himself to the authorities. During his processing by jail staff, Nedeau openly confessed to the crimes, expressing regret for his actions and acknowledging that he had “just lost it.”

As investigations continue, Nedeau faces a $1.5 million bail with conditions and potential conviction leading to a minimum of three years in prison. The tragic events have left the community shaken, prompting reflection on the impact of impulsive actions and the need for mental health support.
