Santa Cruz del Norte, in the province of Mayabeque, was rocked by a brutal assault on a young couple identified as “Ketty” and “Hansel” as they were returning home to the remote village of “El Rubio.”
The perpetrators not only stole their motorcycle but also subjected the couple to extreme violence. According to reports, the assailants went as far as breaking their fingers to steal their rings, dislocating their jaws, and even ripping out their gold teeth. Believing them to be dead, the criminals then callously threw them into a ravine by the side of the road.
The couple was fortunately rescued and rushed to a hospital in Havana. As of the latest update, they were reported to be out of danger despite the severity of their injuries.
In response to the heinous crime, the father of one of the victims, Ketty, has offered a substantial reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the capture of those responsible for the attack. The reward amounting to millions is a testament to the family’s determination to seek justice for their loved ones.
The increasing insecurity and rise in crime in Cuba have alarmed many citizens. Lawyer Manuel Viera has stressed the importance of shedding light on such incidents so they do not fade into obscurity or remain silenced. He emphasized that the nation cannot be built on social media “likes” alone and that events like these must be brought to the forefront to address the growing safety concerns.
Despite the horrific nature of the attack, Viera has refrained from sharing graphic images out of respect for the victims and their families. He has made it clear that his intent is to inform the public about the escalating insecurity affecting the population, rather than to sensationalize or gain followers through such tragic events.
As the investigation into the assault continues, many individuals on social media have expressed outrage and called for swift action to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served for the victims. The community’s solidarity in demanding accountability highlights the growing concerns over safety and the need for effective measures to combat crime in the region.
