Brutal Attack at St. Augustine High School Results in Seven Student Expulsions and Public Outcry

St. Augustine, Florida – Seven students were expelled by the St. Johns County school board following a violent altercation labeled as a “brutal attack” and “full-out brawl” at the bus loop of St. Augustine High School. The incident occurred on September 25 in the afternoon, leading to the removal of another student, a 15-year-old girl, from the school. For privacy reasons, the student’s identity has been protected.

During a public expulsion hearing on Tuesday morning, the superintendent recommended a one-year expulsion for the teenage girl. The family opted to have the hearing made public, with their attorney present to contest the decision. The altercation allegedly began with an argument that quickly escalated into a physical fight lasting less than 30 seconds, as captured in exclusive video footage obtained by Action News Jax.

According to the district, the brawl resulted in injuries to school staff, including a dean who tried to intervene. Superintendent Tim Forson, who witnessed the incident, described it as one of the most violent escalations he had ever seen. The involvement of 14 units from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, three assistant principals, and four deans highlights the severity of the situation.

The expelled student claimed that she had been targeted by the students involved in the altercation for weeks leading up to the incident. Allegations of harassment were reportedly reported to school authorities, but no action was taken. The feud between the teenager and the other students reportedly originated from their middle school years and persisted into high school.

Following the expulsion, the 15-year-old will attend Gaines Alternative School in St. Augustine for the next school year. This institution is designed for students who have violated significant school and district regulations, providing access to mental health resources if needed. Despite the outcome, the teenager’s father emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
