Brutal Attack Near University of Michigan Football Stadium: Teen Brothers Arrested

Ann Arbor, Michigan – Two brothers, Jarrell Childs, 19, and his 13-year-old sibling, have been implicated in a violent assault on a woman near the University of Michigan football stadium in Ann Arbor. The incident occurred last fall when the woman crossed Stadium Boulevard to reach the Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club during halftime for something from her car. According to Ann Arbor Police, the teens targeted the woman, assaulting her by trapping her between cars, choking, and committing sexual assault.

The young suspects were reportedly in the vicinity selling candy before the attack, as mentioned by the authorities. The parents of the accused brothers have vehemently stated their sons’ innocence. Despite facing serious charges like first-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to cause grave bodily harm, theft of a financial transaction card, and larceny, the parents believe their sons are not capable of such actions.

Childs’ younger brother, who was just 13 at the time of the assault, participated in the court proceedings separately from his older brother. Some days after the assault, the 13-year-old attempted to use one of the victim’s stolen credit cards at an ATM in Detroit, accompanied by his brother, as surveillance footage revealed. Detroit Police aided in the identification of the teens, leading to the acquisition of warrants for DNA testing.

Lieutenant Bonnie Theil of the Ann Arbor Police expressed astonishment at the age of the younger suspect and the brutality of the crime, noting that such incidents were unprecedented in her 24 years of service. DNA testing confirmed the suspects’ link to the crime scene, further solidifying the case against them. The victim suffered strangulation resulting in temporary loss of consciousness during the assault.

Jarrell Childs has been held on a $75,000 cash/surety bond at the Washtenaw County Jail, while his younger sibling is detained in the county’s Juvenile Detention Center. The severity and audacity of the reported attack have left both local residents and authorities deeply disturbed by the nature of the crime committed near a prominent university sports venue.
