PITTSBURGH, PA – Authorities have taken an 18-year-old man into custody following a vicious group assault on a homeless man in Pittsburgh. David Rivera surrendered to Allegheny County sheriff’s deputies on Friday morning in connection to the incident that occurred in Market Square, where a man was beaten unconscious.
The criminal complaint revealed that police encountered Rivera on the day of the attack after receiving a 911 call. Rivera attempted to flee from the authorities and sought refuge in a parking garage before being captured. However, he was subsequently released as the victim, DaJuan Davis, who is homeless, had not yet been located. Moments later, Davis was discovered unconscious outside a CVS store on Forbes Avenue, prompting immediate medical attention.
Rivera has been charged by Pittsburgh police with felony aggravated assault in relation to the assault on Davis. The motive behind the violent confrontation remains unclear and is currently under investigation by authorities.
