Calm Restored in Kwame Danso After Youth-Led Violent Attack on District Court and Police Headquarters

Kwame Danso, Ghana — Authorities have restored order in Kwame Danso following a violent incident that unfolded at the local District Court and Police Headquarters on December 10. The Bono East Regional Police Command reported that a significant disturbance erupted when a group of approximately 100 young individuals invaded the court during active proceedings.

The unrest began around 10:30 a.m., with reports indicating that the crowd disrupted the court session and vandalized property. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with individuals damaging furniture and equipment within the court before forcibly removing two defendants who were on trial.

The situation took a turn for the worse when the unrest spread to the Kwame Danso Police Headquarters, where officers were attacked and parts of the station were damaged. Police sources confirmed that at least two officers faced assaults as the mob wreaked havoc.

Prompt action was taken as reinforcement teams from the Atebubu Division arrived, accompanied by members of the Formed Police Units to help restore calm. The presence of additional law enforcement played a crucial role in stabilizing the area and dispersing the crowd.

In light of the violence, the Inspector-General of Police ordered a temporary closure of both the Kwame Danso Police Station and the District Police Headquarters. Officers stationed at these locations have been reassigned to ensure personnel safety while investigations proceed.

The Bono East Regional Police have reassured the community that all individuals involved in the attacks will be located and brought to justice. ASP/Mr. Appiah Danquah, the Acting Public Relations Officer for the region, emphasized the commitment to transparency by stating that perpetrators will be identified and held accountable under the law.

In the aftermath of the disturbance, police officials reiterated their dedication to maintaining peace in the area. They aim to reassure the public that measures are in place to avoid future incidents and to safeguard the community’s well-being.
