Charges Filed Against Ex-Husband in Disturbing Murders of Ohio Dentist and Wife

Rockford, Illinois — Authorities have made a significant breakthrough in the tragic murders of Spencer Tepe, an Ohio dentist, and his wife, Monique, as charges are officially filed against an individual linked to the case. The couple was found shot to death in their home on December 30, and their two young children were discovered unharmed inside.

Michael David McKee, the ex-husband of Monique Tepe, was arrested following a police investigation that tracked him from Columbus, Ohio, to Rockford, located about 79 miles northwest of Chicago. Court documents state that McKee, who divorced Monique in 2017, is now facing charges related to the couple’s deaths.

The Tepe family released a statement expressing their gratitude for the work of law enforcement and stated, “Today’s arrest represents an important step toward justice for Monique and Spencer.” They acknowledged the profound loss of the couple, whose lives were taken far too soon, while thanking the community for its support during this difficult time.

Police believe the couple was killed in the early morning hours between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on the second floor of their home. Investigators described the event as deeply unsettling. Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant remarked on the disturbing nature of the case, underlining the community’s need for answers.

Earlier this week, police had released surveillance video of a person of interest captured near the victims’ residence during the timeframe of the murders. This led detectives to identify a suspect and subsequently connect him to a vehicle, which was later located in Rockford.

McKee is currently held in custody by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, pending his court appearance scheduled for Monday. As the investigation unfolds, the impact on the Tepe family and the broader community remains profound.

In a show of solidarity, family and friends are slated to gather for a celebration of life service in honor of Monique and Spencer Tepe on Sunday. The family expressed their hope that the justice system will hold the individual responsible fully accountable, reaffirming their trust in the legal process as they navigate this tragic loss.
