Cedarbluff, Mississippi — A night of violence left six dead in this small town on Friday, January 9, with a suspect now in custody. Local authorities are investigating the tragic events that unfolded across multiple locations in the area.
Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott announced the incident late Friday, expressing condolences for the victims and their families. “This community has suffered an unimaginable loss tonight,” he wrote in a Facebook post. “We have one individual in custody, and the threat to our community has been neutralized.”
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Daricka Moore, has been charged with first-degree murder and was booked into the Clay County jail around 3 a.m. on Saturday. Sheriff Scott has requested that the community keep the victims in their thoughts during this difficult time while law enforcement continues its investigation.
Preliminary reports indicate that the shootings occurred at three separate locations within Cedarbluff, with the victims including four family members related to the suspect along with two additional adults. Among the deceased is a 7-year-old girl, reportedly a cousin of Moore, prompting outrage and disbelief from the sheriff. “I can’t comprehend a motive for taking the life of a child,” Scott stated during a news conference the following day.
The first shooting took place before 7 p.m. at a residence on David Hill Road. According to Scott, Moore shot and killed his father, Gleen Moore, 67; his uncle, Willie Guines, 55; and his brother, Quinten Moore, 33. Authorities said that he then stole his brother’s truck and drove to another home, where he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a resident before fatally shooting the young girl.
Investigators later located Moore at a third residence, near where the bodies of two other males, Barry Bradley and Samuel Bradley, were discovered. He was apprehended while inside a vehicle believed to be stolen from that location. Sheriff Scott remarked on the disturbing nature of the case, noting, “This situation is unique and heartbreaking, as it involves a family member targeting their own.”
As the investigation continues, authorities are piecing together interviews and evidence to establish a clearer timeline and motive behind this harrowing incident. Sheriff Scott revealed that the evidence suggests Moore acted alone during the shootings.
While the case remains complex and the motives unclear, the impact of this tragedy is deeply felt in Cedarbluff. The local community, which prides itself on its close-knit relationships, now faces the challenge of healing from this inexplicable act of violence.
