Coma Patient Wakes Up Slowly After Assault in Pearl District: Help Needed to Find Suspects and Witnesses

Portland, Oregon – A man who had been in a coma for two weeks has now started to wake up, following a violent assault in the Pearl District late last month. Portland Police Bureau is seeking the public’s assistance in locating suspects and witnesses linked to the incident that took place on February 24 around 9:30 p.m. on Northwest 13th Avenue in Portland.

Upon responding to reports of the assault, officers found a man with severe injuries at the scene. The victim was swiftly transported to a local hospital, where he remained in a coma for over a week, according to authorities. Detectives from PPB’s Major Crimes unit suspect that the assault may have been a result of a disagreement that occurred at a classic car meet-up earlier that evening, involving up to three individuals.

Despite the slow progress, officials revealed that the victim is gradually awakening but continues to grapple with memory loss, necessitating his continued stay in the hospital for the time being. The victim’s girlfriend, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted the frightening experience from her perspective, detailing the injuries sustained by her partner and the desperate call for help.

Described as Hispanic or Caucasian men in their thirties, weighing between 200 to 250 pounds, the suspects are believed to have associations with a vintage Chevy, possibly colored in grey, blue, or green. Additionally, authorities are searching for a large white truck with bright blue neon lights, which they suspect may be linked to either the suspects or witnesses related to the assault.

Expressing concern over her boyfriend’s recovery, the victim’s girlfriend shared that it could take several months to a year before he begins feeling like himself again. She expressed uncertainties about the impact on his memories and the potential risk of seizures, underscoring the challenges lying ahead. The police urge anyone who witnessed the assault or possesses information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
