Assault on Foreign Students during Ramadan Prayers Sparks Outrage in Gujarat University Campus

Ahmedabad, India – Foreign students at Gujarat University in Ahmedabad were violently attacked during their evening Ramadan prayers, leading to injuries and property damage. The assailants, reportedly from Block B hostel, disrupted the students’ prayer session, resulting in a confrontation that escalated to physical violence and vandalism.

Several students were admitted to SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad for treatment, with their conditions reported as stable. The Ahmedabad Police responded promptly to the incident, identifying the attackers as unknown individuals and initiating legal action against them.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik stated that approximately 25 people were involved in the disruption during the prayer time. The clash between the students and the assailants led to the destruction of property and physical harm to the victims.

Among the injured students hospitalized, two were confirmed to be from Tajikistan and Sri Lanka. Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi has taken a firm stance, ordering rioting charges against the 25 assailants involved in the attack at Gujarat University Police Station.

The incident has sparked outrage, with critics calling on government officials for intervention and justice. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi criticized prominent political figures, urging them to address the issue of escalating violence targeted at foreign students in Gujarat.

In response to the assault, a plea was made by a foreign student to reevaluate the issuance of visas in light of the rising hostility towards international students. The altercation resulted in the destruction of personal belongings including electronics, furniture, and other valuables.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, forming a nine-team unit to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the attack. The presence of students from various countries studying at Gujarat University highlights the need for ensuring their safety and security on campus.
