Dionte Reed Arrested Again in Joliet for Allegedly Choking Woman, Breaking Cell Phone

JOLIET, IL – In a recent incident in Joliet, a 28-year-old man found himself behind bars for the fourth time since 2021. The individual, identified as Dionte Reed from Plainfield Kenicott Lane, was arrested on charges of aggravated domestic battery and interference with the reporting of domestic violence. This arrest marked Reed’s latest encounter with the law following an alleged altercation with a woman in Joliet last week.

According to spokesperson Dwayne English of the Joliet police, the incident unfolded during the lunch hour on March 7 at a residence on Lemorr Avenue. The woman involved reported that Reed had physically assaulted her, striking her in the head and body, and attempting to choke her. Despite Reed breaking her cell phone, the victim managed to use a landline to contact the authorities.

After the altercation, Reed fled the scene but was apprehended by officers near Midland Avenue and Campbell Street without incident. It was also revealed that Reed had an active arrest warrant in Will County for failing to appear in court on DUI charges. Following his arrest, Reed was taken to the Will County Jail but was later released over the weekend in accordance with the SAFE-T-Act pending his next court appearance.

The cycle of arrests and alleged violent behavior underscores the importance of addressing issues related to domestic violence. It serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by victims of such incidents and the necessity of prompt intervention by law enforcement authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals impacted by domestic violence. The incident also sheds light on the complexities surrounding cases of domestic abuse and the need for comprehensive support mechanisms to address such situations effectively.
