Kaiama, Nigeria – A response team from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been dispatched to the Woro and Nuku communities in Kwara State, following a violent bandit attack that resulted in significant loss of life. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the agency to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the attack, which has been described as one of the deadliest in the region’s recent history.
The assault occurred on Tuesday and claimed the lives of over 160 residents, prompting swift action from the federal government. Following a briefing from Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, President Tinubu emphasized the urgency of delivering relief supplies to the survivors and their families.
In addition to the efforts by NEMA, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun announced that tactical and intelligence units were being deployed to the area to enhance security and assist in recovery efforts. The Nigeria Police Force condemned the attack in a statement, highlighting their commitment to restoring safety in the affected communities.
NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, revealed that a team from the agency’s Minna Operations Office is now working closely with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and local security forces. This collaboration aims to assess the immediate needs of the residents and to ensure an effective response to the humanitarian crisis.
Relief items, including food and non-food supplies, have been arranged and are already on-site to aid the victims. Umar expressed deep condolences to the affected communities and reinforced NEMA’s commitment to supporting them during this challenging time.
