MARIETTA, GA – Authorities are investigating the brutal death of a grandmother, allegedly killed by a man who reportedly followed her home and strangled her in a violent attack. The accused, 21-year-old Hector David Sagastume Rivas, faces charges in the murder of 52-year-old Camillia Williams, whose body was discovered in the vicinity of her Marietta residence.
According to police in Marietta, the incident occurred late on March 12 or early March 13. Williams’ lifeless body, horrifically discarded in the bushes near her home, was found on a Thursday morning, sending shockwaves through her family and the community.
The arrest warrant details an alleged gruesome method of strangulation, with Sagastume Rivas reportedly admitting to the act during questioning.
Family members revealed that Williams had contacted them the night she disappeared, expressing fear of a man she mistakenly encountered at a local store. Her brother, Tony Williams, recounted how she had mentioned feeling followed by a stranger, suspected to be Sagastume Rivas.
Police are still delving into the motive behind this appalling crime, yet reports indicate that the suspect has already confessed to the murder. As per authorities, Sagastume Rivas explained he initially attempted to kill her using a chokehold before resorting to a more violent method when that failed.
Danielle Williams, Camillia’s niece, conveyed profound disbelief and sorrow at the violent loss of her aunt. “It’s hard to fathom why someone would carry out such an act,” she lamented, echoing a sentiment shared by the mourning family.
Sagastume Rivas remains in custody without bond, charged with felony murder. The court has denied bail, and he awaits his next court appearance, underscoring the grave nature of the charges he faces.
As the community grapples with the tragedy, investigators continue piecing together the events leading up to the murder. The stark reality of violence hitting so close to home lingers heavily in the hearts of those left behind.
