Hammer-Wielding Thug Behind Bars for ‘Violent’ Attack: Jake Coop Imprisoned

Leamington, Warwickshire, England – A violent hammer attack orchestrated by a young offender has resulted in a five-year custodial sentence for 19-year-old Jake Coop and a four-year sentence for a 16-year-old accomplice. The pair, who were not identified for legal reasons, had meticulously planned their assault, intending to harm the victim by stabbing him. Coop, described as “baby-faced,” and the teenage boy carried out their attack on September 16, wielding a hammer and a large knife.

According to court reports, the victim and his friends were ambushed by Coop and his companion on Tapping Way. During the altercation, Coop struck the victim in the head with a hammer, causing the victim to collapse and suffer from seizures. Subsequently, the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was placed in an induced coma. Fortunately, a CT scan revealed no significant brain damage, offering some relief amidst the severe circumstances.

Following the attack, the 16-year-old assailant brandished a Rambo knife and pursued one of the victim’s friends. Disturbed witnesses to the incident alerted the authorities, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Shortly after the assault, the 16-year-old suspect was apprehended at his residence, while Coop voluntarily turned himself in at the Leamington Police Station. The duo was subsequently charged for their involvement in the violent incident.

In a subsequent court hearing at Warwick Crown Court, Jake Coop confessed to causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon, leading to his five-year prison sentence. The 16-year-old from Rugby admitted to possessing a bladed article, resulting in a four-year custodial sentence. The court also found both defendants guilty of conspiring to commit grievous bodily harm, further solidifying their legal culpability.

Reflecting on the case, Detective Constable Mark Lowndes from the Warwickshire Police CID emphasized the severity of the attack, underscoring the potentially tragic consequences of weapon-related violence. He reassured the public of law enforcement’s commitment to thoroughly investigating such incidents, highlighting the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
