Abuja, Nigeria – Authorities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have apprehended 19 individuals linked to a violent attack on security personnel by members of the banned Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as the Shi’ites. The incident took place on Friday, March 28, 2025, in the Banex Area of Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, around 2:20 PM.
According to a statement from the FCT Police Command, the IMN members unleashed an unprovoked assault on security operatives, brandishing firearms, cutlasses, catapults, sticks, stones, petrol bombs, and other dangerous weapons. Upon receiving a distress call, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the scene, where they encountered heavy gunfire from the attackers, resulting in severe injuries to three officers. Tragically, one officer succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the National Hospital.
Commissioner of Police, Ajao Saka Adewale, strongly condemned the attack, vowing to ensure that all those involved face justice. Efforts are underway to capture those who managed to evade arrest, as the FCT Command remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the nation’s capital. Adewale emphasized that any assaults on security personnel who risk their lives to protect citizens will not be tolerated.
