Investigation: Missouri AG Probes Hazelwood School District After Brutal Teen Attack

St. Louis, Missouri – Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has launched an investigation into the Hazelwood School District regarding a violent attack on a St. Louis teen. Bailey’s inquiry focuses on the district’s diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and their potential impact on student safety in the aftermath of the brutal incident.

Bailey expressed concern over the district’s adoption of a “Statement of Solidarity” in 2020, which he believes led to discriminatory treatment based on race and the removal of uniformed police officers from schools in 2021. This move to exclude law enforcement from the school premises has raised questions about the district’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for students.

In a letter to Hazelwood School District Superintendent Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, Bailey highlighted the need for accountability and transparency. The investigation aims to determine if the district’s actions violated Missouri’s Human Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination and ensures equal access to public accommodations for all residents.

Bailey also demanded the school district provide records related to bullying, anti-bullying efforts, student violence, and the decision to eliminate law enforcement presence on campus. He emphasized the importance of understanding the role of the district’s policies and safety lapses in the violent incident involving the St. Louis teen.

The victim, identified as Kaylee, remains in critical condition with a fractured skull that has caused severe brain bleeding and swelling. Bailey underscored the urgency of addressing the district’s prioritization of racial ideologies over student safety, calling for accountability and justice in the wake of the attack.

The attorney general’s investigation is ongoing, with a focus on unraveling the circumstances that led to the violent assault. The community awaits further developments as Bailey works to hold the Hazelwood School District accountable for its alleged role in compromising student safety and well-being.
