Longford Park Alleged Assault Case Continues: Michael Godla Makes Court Appearance

Longford, Ireland – A 34-year-old man from Longford, Ireland, appeared in court for allegedly assaulting a woman in a local park. Michael Godla faced charges of assault causing harm at The Mall in Longford town on August 7, 2023. The incident involved a woman in her 50s who suffered serious facial injuries during a late-night walk at the Mall complex.

Godla, a resident of Annaly Court, Longford, was brought before Longford District Court for the assault case. The accused made his latest appearance in court, having previously appeared at Athlone District Court in January following formal charges in connection to the assault incident. The prosecution requested a further adjournment as they awaited directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to assess the investigation file.

During the court proceedings, Sgt Enda Daly informed the court that the DPP’s directions were pending, seeking more time for the investigation file’s consideration. Godla’s defense solicitor, Frank Gearty, did not object to the request for an adjournment, with Judge Bernadette Owens highlighting the need for case progression on the next court date. The court remanded Godla on continuing bail until the next hearing at Longford District Court on April 9.

Authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served in the matter and to address any underlying issues that may have led to the incident. Victim support services are also available to assist those affected by such incidents, offering resources and assistance to help them navigate the legal process and cope with the traumatic experience.
