ST. LOUIS — A woman was shot and killed in a Starbucks drive-thru, prompting police to arrest a suspect who faces multiple serious charges, including first-degree murder. The incident occurred on February 10, leading to the tragic death of the 28-year-old victim at the hands of 58-year-old Keith Brown.
Brown has been charged with first-degree murder, four counts of armed criminal action, three counts of first-degree robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm as a previously convicted felon. According to court records, he allegedly held a gun to the victim’s head, ordered her to raise her hands, and then shot her before stealing her bank cards and driver’s license.
In the days leading up to the shooting, Brown was also implicated in two additional armed robberies. Investigators reported that on February 6, he pointed a firearm at a woman in a Jack in the Box drive-thru, stealing her purse, which contained her bank cards and cellphone. Just two days later, he allegedly robbed a Dollar General store at gunpoint, demanding cash from the cashier.
Surveillance footage linked Brown to these incidents, although investigators initially hesitated to release the material due to inconsistencies in ballistic evidence. It was not until Brown was connected to the Starbucks shooting that authorities recognized a pattern in his criminal activities.
Mitch McCoy, a spokesperson for the St. Louis police, remarked on the evolving investigation. “We were just beginning to understand there was a potential pattern, and it wasn’t until the homicide where an innocent person lost their life that it became clear this individual was responsible for both the shooting and the earlier robberies,” he said.
Brown was apprehended on a Tuesday evening while armed, and police executed a search warrant at his residence shortly thereafter. During the search, they recovered items belonging to victims from the earlier robberies, as well as a neon safety vest and hard hat, which he had worn during the crimes.
The community has voiced concerns over safety and has called for enhanced police collaboration with local leaders to prevent tragic incidents like this from recurring. Authorities acknowledge the importance of building partnerships within neighborhoods to improve public safety.
As the investigation continues, the family of the victim is left to cope with their loss. “I hope that the family feels a sense of relief knowing the person who caused this tragedy is in custody, thanks to the diligent work of our police officers and detectives,” McCoy added.
Brown remains incarcerated without bond as the judicial process unfolds.
