Murder Charges Filed After Brutal Assault and Fatal Hit-and-Run at Detroit Gas Station

DETROIT — A man’s tragic fate unfolded early Tuesday at a gas station when he was allegedly assaulted and run over by his own vehicle. The victim, identified as 60-year-old Keith Graus, suffered fatal injuries outside a Sunoco station located on Joy Road near Greenfield.

Kevin Maurice Farries, 25, of Detroit, has been charged with murder in connection with the incident. Authorities say that the altercation began when Graus exited the convenience store at the gas station. Witnesses report that Farries was found sitting inside Graus’s parked Jeep, which he subsequently exited to initiate an attack.

After inflicting severe injuries on Graus, Farries is accused of re-entering the Jeep and running over the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene. The vehicle was later discovered abandoned nearby.

As law enforcement responded, they spotted Farries driving the vehicle and attempted to stop him. However, he allegedly struck a patrol car, prompting a chase that led officers through several streets. The pursuit concluded when Farries hit a pole after colliding with another patrol vehicle in Dearborn. He was taken into custody shortly after the crash.

Investigators are labeling the attack as random, though they emphasize that the inquiry is ongoing. Police have not indicated any known motive for the violent encounter in the heart of Detroit.

Local authorities are now working to gather more information about both the assailant and the events leading up to the assault. Community members have expressed shock over the brutality of the incident, further highlighting concerns regarding public safety in the area.

As Farries awaits further legal proceedings, the city continues to grapple with rising concerns about violence and safety amidst such unsettling occurrences.
