SAN JOSE, Calif. — A man who was brutally assaulted at a light rail station in San Jose has died from his injuries, prompting authorities to consider murder charges against the suspect currently in custody, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on September 29 at the Gish Valley Transportation Authority station. Deputies apprehended 23-year-old Brandon Fryshaw following reports of a fight at the station. Around midnight, responders found a 42-year-old man suffering from severe head trauma and unresponsive on the platform. Despite medical efforts, the victim remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Fryshaw was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. However, with the victim’s passing, the case has been escalated to a homicide investigation. Authorities are now exploring additional charges against him.
Detectives have linked Fryshaw to another assault involving an unhoused individual at the nearby Saint James VTA station, suggesting a troubling pattern of violent behavior. The Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with information regarding either incident to step forward.
