Gazipur, Bangladesh – The government launched a nationwide security operation named “Operation Devil Hunt” in response to a violent attack on students and civilians in Gazipur. The incident prompted a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs, where law enforcement agencies discussed strategies to maintain law and order and bring the perpetrators to justice.
At the meeting, it was decided that a coordinated operation involving joint forces would commence immediately to address the situation. The operation, starting in Gazipur and expanding nationwide, aims to quell unrest and ensure public safety.
Authorities have announced that further details about “Operation Devil Hunt” will be revealed in a press briefing scheduled for the next day. A superintendent of police from the Chattogram division, speaking on condition of anonymity, mentioned compiling a list of leaders and activists associated with the Awami League and its affiliated groups to apprehend those inciting violence or sabotage.
The attack in Gazipur, allegedly orchestrated by militants linked to the former Awami League regime, resulted in severe injuries to multiple individuals. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take stringent measures to restore stability and prevent any further violence.
In response to the attack, leaders of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the arrest of those involved and demanded justice during a protest rally in Gazipur city. The movement also called for actions such as cancelling the registration of the Awami League, trying the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her associates, and seizing the properties of corrupt individuals within the party.
The incident from the previous night involved a group of agitators attempting to vandalize Mozammel Haque’s residence in Gazipur. Local authorities rushed to the scene upon receiving information and admitted 15 injured individuals to a nearby medical facility. With the situation eventually under control, police and army personnel intervened to prevent further escalation.
As reports surfaced detailing the attack on Mozammel’s residence, the local mosque alerted residents about the ongoing incident, urging them to intervene. The sequence of events underscored the need for heightened security measures and prompt responses to maintain peace and public safety amidst rising tensions.
