Road Rage Tragedy: Family Files Wrongful Death Claim Against Shooter in Tucson

Tucson, Arizona – The family of a man who was fatally shot in a road rage incident in March has taken legal action against the alleged shooter and his wife. Jeffrey Honer, a 47-year-old doctor, was killed by Jason Jameson, 41, following a traffic dispute on Tucson’s far northeast side, as detailed by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Jameson, who claimed self-defense, now faces a second-degree murder charge and is currently out on bond.

The widow of the victim, Alyssa Honer, has enlisted attorney Carlo Mercaldo to file a wrongful death claim in Pima County Superior Court against Jameson and his wife, Ekaterina Jameson. According to Mercaldo, their investigation suggests that Honer was not a threat and was actually retreating when he was shot by Jameson. The claim, a precursor to a potential lawsuit, requires Jameson to respond within 20 days from a specified date in April.

The incident unfolded as Honer was travelling between patient visits with two nurses when they encountered Jameson near North Houghton and East Snyder roads. The claim states that Jameson became aggressive, attempting to redirect the caravan and behaving erratically on the road. Upon a confrontation where Jameson struck Honer, the victim attempted to walk away before being shot in the back by Jameson. Despite efforts to save him, Honer succumbed to his injuries caused by the bullet which exited through his neck.

The family’s claim asserts that Jameson’s actions were negligent and resulted in wrongful death. Mercaldo expressed that Jameson’s behavior was reckless and unreasonable, leading to the unnecessary loss of Honer’s promising future. As the legal proceedings continue, it is evident that the tragic consequences of a road rage incident have left Honer’s loved ones devastated and seeking justice for his untimely passing.
