Shooter on Federal Probation Sentenced to 14 Years for Omaha Mass Shooting

Omaha, Nebraska – A man from Omaha has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his involvement in a mass shooting at a house party that resulted in the death of Karly Wood, aged 20. The incident, which occurred on November 13, 2022, at 33rd & Ames, left seven others injured, with two identified as suspects in the shooting.

Kiwan Dampeer, 26, was convicted on multiple counts, including possession of a firearm as a felon, use of a firearm during a felony, shooting at a house, and possession of a firearm on school premises. The sentencing comes after Dampeer admitted his culpability in the tragic event, expressing remorse for the loss of Wood’s life and acknowledging his association with negative influences.

Another individual, Imhotep Davis, has been charged with murder in connection with the same incident, with his trial pending. During the court proceedings, Dampeer appealed for leniency, emphasizing his commitment to being a better father to his children and distancing himself from harmful influences that led to his criminal behavior.

Deputy County Attorney Amy Jacobsen highlighted the repeated opportunities Dampeer had been given to change his ways, underscoring his involvement in the violent episode. Meanwhile, the mother of Karly Wood, Amber, expressed her disappointment in Dampeer’s plea for a second chance, pointing out the irreparable loss her family had suffered compared to his repeated transgressions.

Tyvell Lampkin-Davis, another participant in the shooting, received a five-year probation sentence for unlawful possession of a firearm on school premises and being an accessory to a felony. In his apology to the victim’s family, Lampkin-Davis acknowledged his wrongdoing, fueling the ongoing legal proceedings overseen by District Court Judge W. Russell Bowie. The community continues to grapple with the aftermath of the tragic event, seeking closure and justice for the lives lost and impacted.
