Shooting at Valentine’s Day Party Claims Life of 22-Year-Old; Investigation Underway in Kendall County

KENDALL COUNTY, Ill. — Authorities have confirmed the identity of a man killed in a shooting incident during a Valentine’s Day gathering over the weekend. The Kendall County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 22-year-old Luis Manuel Chauran Escobar from Valencia, Venezuela.

The shooting occurred at a residence located at 5 Palomino Lane in unincorporated Oswego Township on Sunday morning, following a ticketed party that had taken place earlier. According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, the incident is believed to have transpired between 8 and 10 a.m.

In addition to the fatality, a 14-year-old girl sustained a leg injury during the incident. Initial reports suggest that gunfire came from outside the home, raising concerns among law enforcement officials regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Late Thursday, police announced that a person of interest who had been detained shortly after the shooting was released without charges. “This has been a very complex investigation so far. Although we still have much work ahead, I want to commend our deputies and investigators for their diligence in thoroughly examining the details of this case,” said Undersheriff Bobby Richardson.

Authorities believe the shooting was targeted and do not consider there to be an ongoing threat to the surrounding community. Community members have reported that the location has been known for hosting frequent large gatherings, with previous noise complaints filed with police.

Neighbors expressed concerns about the property, noting the volume of parties held there. Authorities have documented a history of complaints regarding disruptive noise levels linked to the residence.

A representative connected to the Valentine’s Day event responded to inquiries, stating that some individuals arrived in a black car armed and initiated a confrontation. The spokesperson asserted that these individuals were not invited to the party.

Investigators are urging anyone who attended the gathering or possesses relevant information—such as photographs or videos related to the shooting—to reach out. Tips can be submitted to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office via email or phone, with an option for anonymity through Crime Stoppers.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities hope to shed light on the motives behind the violence and ensure community safety moving forward.
