Columbus, Ohio – Authorities in Darke County, Ohio, revealed new details on Friday regarding a shooting that occurred during a car chase, resulting in the suspect’s death. Additionally, investigators discovered another deceased individual in the suspect’s home.
The incident unfolded in Darke County, northwest of Dayton, on Thursday afternoon. A 911 call was placed by a man who reported being shot at by his friend at the friend’s home. The friend then pursued him in a vehicle after he fled the scene. This led to a dramatic car chase and shooting incident.
The pursuit eventually culminated in a crash, resulting in the death of the shooter who was ejected from his vehicle as it rolled over multiple times. The victim of the shooting sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Upon returning to the suspect’s residence, deputies discovered a deceased woman inside. Darke County Sheriff Mark Whittaker identified the victim as Juanita Maloon, the 53-year-old wife of the suspect, Josiah “Joe” Maloon, 57. According to Sheriff Whittaker, Joe Maloon fatally beat and shot his wife in a tragic act of violence.
The investigation revealed that a third individual had visited the Maloon residence at Joe Maloon’s request for a transaction, which escalated into a violent altercation. The visitor reported that Maloon began shooting at him when he arrived at the property as instructed, leading to a chaotic sequence of events.
Forensic evidence indicated that Juanita Maloon’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators recovered a handgun near Maloon at the crash site, which bore similarities to the weapon used in the fatal shooting and other violent incidents.
Authorities also uncovered shell casings in the driveway of the Maloon residence, providing further evidence of the violent nature of the events that transpired.
