Shooting Suspect Arrested in East Bay After Fatal Incident at 20th and Mission

San Francisco, California – A 30-year-old man was taken into custody on Friday night in the East Bay area for the fatal shooting that occurred earlier that day near Mission and 20th streets. The San Francisco Police Department confirmed the arrest of Alexander Martinez for homicide, with the arrest taking place in Richmond around 10:20 p.m. on Friday. Martinez was subsequently booked into San Francisco County Jail early Saturday morning.

The victim, described as a man in his 20s, was shot and killed approximately at 1:37 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of 20th and Mission streets, close to the El Capitan Hotel and Modern Hair Cuts barbershop, according to police reports. Upon the officers’ arrival at the scene, they found an adult male victim with gunshot wounds, who unfortunately succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving efforts.

The unfortunate incident occurred on the victim’s first day working at the barbershop, where he had only been employed for about four hours before the shooting took place, as per statements from nearby witnesses. Witnesses mentioned that the victim, after being shot outside the barbershop, sought refuge inside the shop before collapsing. Tragically, he could not be revived, as the bullet had pierced through his chest.

One witness described seeing the shooter in a white car firing shots before fleeing the scene. The witness further disclosed that the shooter had been observing the victim from inside the car before carrying out the shooting. This crime marks the first homicide thus far this year in the Mission area and the ninth in the city of San Francisco, according to SFPD data.
