Nashville, Tennessee – A tragic incident unfolded at Red Caboose Park in Bellevue, where a teenage boy lost his life and his teenage sister was left injured after a shooting. The shooting took place around 8:00 p.m. last Wednesday, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD).
The chaos began when a fight erupted among a group of females in the park’s parking lot, drawing in other teens from the area. Amidst the altercation, an individual brandished a gun and fired shots, resulting in a 16-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy being struck. Tragically, the two victims were identified as siblings.
Despite being wounded, the 16-year-old girl managed to find her way to a nearby fire hall to report the shooting. Firefighters provided immediate aid to her, but her younger brother was not as fortunate. The 13-year-old boy sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
MNPD spokesperson Don Aaron expressed the somber reality of the situation, stating, “This is a bad night for Nashville, to have two teens, brother and sister, 16 and 13 being the victims of a violent crime.” The 16-year-old survivor was able to provide authorities with a description of the shooter, and she is expected to recover from her injuries.
Law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended an individual matching the suspect’s description walking near Highway 70, about half a mile from the park. The detained individual was taken in for questioning as police gathered witness statements at the crime scene.
In response to the disturbing violence, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell issued a heartfelt statement, acknowledging the poignant impact of the tragedy on the families involved. O’Connell commended the prompt actions of first responders and the police in their efforts to address the situation, while awaiting further information from the ongoing investigation.
