Teenage Chicago Drummer’s Killer Sentenced to Juvenile Detention Center for Deadly Shooting

A teenage boy in Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced for the fatal shooting of a beloved drummer in the city’s Southwest Side in 2022. The 16-year-old offender received a five-year term in a juvenile detention center, having pleaded guilty to first-degree murder earlier in the year. The victim, Ryan Arliskas, known as “Tygercat,” was attacked by three boys while walking home on April 8, 2022, resulting in a tragic death.

Chicago police released surveillance images of the suspects involved in the murder, leading to the arrest of the shooter in March 2023. Family and friends of Tygercat gathered outside the courthouse holding pictures of the musician, reminiscing about his passion for drumming. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, as confirmed by the shooter’s attorney, who mentioned that no valuables were taken during the incident.

Despite receiving limited information initially due to the suspects being minors, Arliskas’ family sought justice and closure. The sentencing of the teen marks a significant step in the legal process, with the strictest five-year term being imposed by the Department of Juvenile Justice. The family expressed disappointment in the juvenile justice system, advocating for tougher penalties in similar cases.

An accomplice of the shooter, referred to as the “lookout,” was also apprehended and charged, while a third individual seen in surveillance footage remains at large. The emotional toll on Tygercat’s loved ones was evident as they addressed the court, highlighting the void left by his untimely death. Despite the sentencing, the family continues to mourn the loss of Tygercat, emphasizing the need for his voice to be heard in seeking justice for his tragic demise.
