Rockford, Illinois – Police have charged Timothy Carter, 28, with murder for the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old Walmart employee. The incident occurred at the Walmart located on Northridge Drive on Sunday night. Authorities responded to the scene after a distress call around 6:05 p.m.
Surveillance footage revealed that Carter grabbed two knives, a silver kitchen knife, and a red hunting knife, from the store shelves. He then targeted the victim, Jason Jenkins, and stabbed him in the back. Witnesses reported hearing the victim’s cries for help and Carter using a racial slur following the attack.

Jenkins was rushed to Javon Bea Mercyhealth Riverside Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Carter was subsequently arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. Despite having no permanent address in Rockford, he has ties to Cabery, Illinois. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Monday at 1:30 p.m.
