Assault and Robbery Suspects Apprehended in Churchill LRT Incident: Key Suspects Still at Large

Edmonton, Alberta – Edmonton police have successfully apprehended and charged two suspects linked to an assault and robbery at the Churchill LRT station. The incident occurred on February 24th at around 5:30 a.m. when a 64-year-old man was attacked on the ground-level platform while waiting for a train. Following a brief conversation, the male suspect violently assaulted the victim, with five other suspects joining in the attack and robbing the man before fleeing the scene. As a result of the assault, the victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

One of the arrested suspects, 28-year-old Brady Rodney Desroches-Smith, has been charged with aggravated assault and robbery. Interestingly, Desroches-Smith was also wanted for first-degree murder by the Grande Prairie RCMP at the time of his arrest. Additionally, 35-year-old Travis Damian Houle faces charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and failure to comply with a probation order.

Through tips from the public, the authorities were able to identify one of the suspects as 21-year-old Markus Lee Gladue. Although Gladue remains at large, arrest warrants have been issued for charges including aggravated assault, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, and robbery. However, three other suspects involved in the incident have yet to be identified by the police.

Descriptions provided by law enforcement paint a picture of the suspects still on the loose. The first unidentified suspect is described as having a medium build, wearing a white puffy jacket with a maroon/purple scarf, black pants, white running shoes, and carrying a black backpack. The second suspect, believed to be a man between 30- and 40-years-old, is described as 5’7” to 5’9” tall with a slim build, dyed hair, and wearing various identifiable clothing items. The third suspect, described as a woman between 25 and 30-years-old, is of medium height with shoulder-length straight brown hair, wearing specific clothing items as well.
