Stabbing Survivor Recalls Killer’s Glee in Rockford Rampage

Rockford, Illinois – A witness to the tragic stabbing spree that resulted in four deaths has vividly described the expression of joy on the killer’s face during the heinous attack. Christian Soto, 22, is currently facing charges including murder, attempted murder, and home invasion in connection with the Rockford rampage that also left six individuals injured.

The deadly attacks claimed the lives of Jacob Schupbach, 23, Ramona Schupbach, 63, mailman Jay Larson, and Jenna Newcomb, 15. Darlene Weber, a survivor of the ordeal, revealed the terrifying encounter her family had with Soto at their Rockford home.

Weber, along with her children, Jacob Vollman, 21, and Cathy Gilfillan, 23, found themselves facing the attacker when he forced his way into their residence. She recalled the brutality of the attack, with Soto assaulting her as she tried to seek help, only to be stopped by their loyal pet, Brady.

Vollman courageously confronted Soto head-on, preventing further harm to his family members. The survivors recounted the chilling sight of Soto’s bloodied appearance and eerie demeanor during the attack. Despite the chaotic situation, Weber commended her son’s bravery, describing him as a “knight in shining armor.”

In a disturbing revelation, Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley disclosed that Soto had admitted to the crimes, claiming he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the rampage. Soto mentioned consuming marijuana he believed to be laced with an unknown substance, triggering a paranoid state that led to the violent attacks in multiple locations.

The community is left mourning the tragic loss of lives and grappling with the aftermath of the senseless violence that rocked Rockford. The survivors, as well as the families of the victims, are now left to pick up the pieces and seek justice for those who lost their lives in this horrific event.
