Staff at Gurugram Liquor Store Violently Attacked Over Bottle Dispute

Gurugram, India – A shocking incident unfolded on the night of Feb. 15 when a group of over 30 individuals reportedly targeted a local liquor store amidst a dispute over attempting to take alcohol without paying for it. According to reports, the incident was captured by surveillance cameras within the establishment and escalated rapidly, resulting in a violent attack on the store’s staff. The dispute began when six individuals entered the shop under the pretext of purchasing alcohol and then paid for only one bottle out of the five they had procured, leading to a heated dispute with the store’s attendant.

The situation quickly spiraled out of control, with the group assaulting the salesman and demanding an extortion amount of Rs 5 lakh (about $6,000) from the store owner, Rajesh Kumar. This led to a brutal assault on the shop owner’s associate and colleagues, who sustained critical injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital. Following the incident, Kumar filed a detailed police complaint, leading to the registration of a first information report (FIR) at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station. Charges were filed under Sections 147, 149, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), addressing involvement in riots, being part of an unlawful assembly, and engaging in criminal intimidation.

Inspector Sandeep Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) at Shivaji Nagar police station, has assured the public that efforts are underway to swiftly identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for the violent act. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the escalating violence and disputes that can arise in the alcohol retail industry, highlighting the need for increased security measures and safety protocols for liquor stores. This incident also sheds light on the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means and the consequences of resorting to violence in conflicts.
