Coffs Harbour, a popular beach in NSW’s mid-north coast, was the scene of a tragic incident as a surfer was fatally stabbed on Thursday morning. The 22-year-old man was discovered with significant stab wounds in a car park by a witness heading to the gym around 6:40 a.m., who promptly called emergency services. Despite being treated by paramedics for his injuries, the young man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Coffs Harbour Base Hospital.
Chief Inspector Detective Guy Flaherty revealed that the victim, who had just come out of the surf, was found next to his orange Ford sedan wearing a black wetsuit and using a short board surfboard. An investigation is underway, with a heavy police presence at the scene, including emergency services and SES personnel combing the beach and surrounding areas for evidence. The police have established strike force Kooringaroo and are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the car park between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. to come forward.
Flaherty also mentioned that investigators believe the perpetrator may have retreated from the car park towards the creek and bridge area near the beach. The authorities are working diligently to gather any information that could lead to solving this tragic crime. The community is shocked and saddened by the violent incident at what is typically a peaceful and scenic location for surfers and beachgoers alike.
The identity of the victim has not been released as the investigation continues, and local residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior in the area. The surfing community mourns the loss of one of its own, and the search for justice in this senseless act of violence remains a top priority for law enforcement. As details emerge and the investigation progresses, the community hopes for swift resolution and closure for the victim’s loved ones.
