DAVIE, FL – Three teenagers have been taken into custody after authorities say a woman was lured from her home, brutally beaten, pistol-whipped, and shot at in an attack that unfolded on June 22 in a residential area of Davie, just outside Fort Lauderdale.
Nawrkin Nawlyn Rivas De Los Santos, 19, and Lyrick Garcia, 19, are facing charges of first-degree attempted murder with a firearm, officials said. Valerie Lisette Gonzalez, also 19, was arrested a day earlier and is accused of first-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and illegal firearm discharge.
Investigators report that the trio arrived at the victim’s South West 39th Court home after she received a private message on Instagram from someone she recognized. That person suggested meeting up to get something to eat. When she agreed, a male acquaintance arrived at her home on foot and told her his car was parked nearby.
Expecting a simple outing, the woman followed the man to a light-colored sedan. As she approached, another individual inside the car—concealing his identity with a hoodie and ski mask—sprang out and struck her in the face, police said.
The attack quickly escalated, with the masked suspect repeatedly punching and hitting the woman, according to police reports. The assailant’s blows left the victim with injuries to her mouth, face, and neck. Moments later, a woman—also wearing a hoodie and ski mask—emerged from the back of the vehicle.
Despite the disguise, the victim recognized the woman’s voice and identified her as Gonzalez from previous encounters, including time spent together in juvenile detention. Police say that during the assault, Gonzalez referenced a deceased boyfriend before beating the victim in the head with a firearm.
Statements made by the other suspects confirmed that Gonzalez repeatedly struck the woman with the weapon, and Garcia described the beating as a “pistol-whipping.” As the violence continued, the suspects allegedly stomped on the woman as she lay on the ground.
Authorities believe Gonzalez recorded the assault on her cell phone with the flash activated. The victim later received a video clip of the incident, which police say was sent by one of the attackers.
Seizing an opportunity, the injured woman managed to get to her feet and escape, running for her life. As she fled, Gonzalez allegedly fired a shot in her direction. Conflicting accounts exist about the shot’s intent—police say Gonzalez aimed at the victim, while one co-defendant claims the shot was directed at the ground.
Investigators learned the victim knew at least two of her assailants, and traced the Instagram account used to lure her back to Gonzalez, per statements in the arrest warrant. After the attack, prosecutors say Gonzalez sent several chilling messages to the victim and her mother, allegedly expressing her intent to kill and referencing the assault.
The three defendants are currently being held in the Broward Main Jail without bond, according to court records.
