Tragic Murder-Suicide in Coral Gables: Victims Identified, Surviving Son Recovers

Coral Gables, Florida – Police have revealed the identities of the individuals involved in a tragic shooting incident that occurred in Coral Gables. Lusine Melikyan, 41, and Matthew Vincent Roll, 60, lost their lives in what authorities are considering a murder-suicide. Melikyan’s son, Suren Mkrtchyan, 20, also sustained injuries during the incident.

The Coral Gables Police Department received reports of a shooting at the Gables Ponce apartment building on Granello Avenue around 9:40 a.m. Miami-Dade Police confirmed that Mkrtchyan made a distress call to 911, reporting that he had been shot along with two other individuals in the apartment.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered Melikyan and Roll deceased, while Mkrtchyan was found wounded. Mkrtchyan was quickly transported to Jackson South Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition.

Investigators believe Roll to be the perpetrator of the shooting and disclosed that he and Melikyan were involved in a domestic relationship. Mkrtchyan is Melikyan’s son, as confirmed by the authorities.

Background details suggest that Roll had relocated his family from California to South Florida amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. However, a bankruptcy petition filed in January indicated financial struggles, with the couple reporting a monthly income of less than $3,200 while facing rent exceeding $3,500 at Gables Ponce. Shortly after their debts were discharged, a judge approved their eviction from the apartment.

While the motive behind the tragic event remains undisclosed, law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
