PHILADELPHIA, PA – A heated road rage dispute escalated into gunfire Monday night, leaving two young individuals injured at a busy intersection. According to local authorities, the suspect, a man estimated to be in his early forties, fired shots while driving a silver Honda Civic near the crossroads of 42nd and Girard Avenue.
The victims, a 15-year-old boy, and a 20-year-old woman were traveling in a separate car when they were attacked. Officials reported that the teenager sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm, while the woman experienced a grazing bullet to the chest.
Fortunately, both are now in stable condition, with one receiving medical care at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and the other at Lankenau Medical Center.
Despite the violent encounter, the suspect remains at large. The Philadelphia Police Department is actively investigating, having gathered surveillance footage from surrounding cameras. The recordings depict the assailant yelling from his window and discharging his firearm before fleeing the scene.
Detectives have highlighted the distinctive damage to the suspect’s vehicle, which includes notable bodywork issues and a missing hub cap. They urge the public to remain vigilant, advising against any direct interaction with the suspect and encouraging immediate contact with authorities at 911 or through their anonymous tip line.
This incident was among several shootings that plagued the city overnight, with at least five different acts of gun violence reported.
Despite the uptick in crime, Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore noted progress in the department’s efforts to solve such cases, attributing recent successes to advancements in technology and the strategic use of video surveillance.
