Vigil Honors 14-Year-Old Jeremy "Tank" Rosales, Victim of Tragic Shooting in Victorville

Victorville, California — The community gathered on Monday evening to remember 14-year-old Jeremy “Tank” Rosales, who was fatally shot just days earlier. Friends, family, and teammates assembled for a candlelight vigil in Hesperia, reflecting on the profound impact the young boy had on their lives.

Rosales was killed Friday night at Victorville Park, located near Glen Canyon Lane and Burwood Avenue, according to authorities from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators have yet to identify any suspects in the case, adding to the community’s grief and questions surrounding the incident.

Around 300 attendees joined the vigil to honor Rosales, participating in a heartfelt tribute that included a balloon release and chants in his memory. His sister, Raylene Garcia, expressed the love and warmth surrounding her brother’s spirit. “He touched so many hearts,” she said, highlighting the deep connections he forged with those around him.

Coaches and teammates echoed the sentiment about Rosales’ character and future aspirations. His football coaches, Gabriel Hernandez and Elliot Reyes, depicted him as a promising athlete with dreams of a brighter future. Reyes described Rosales as a “humble,” hardworking student with high achievements, claiming, “No one deserves this.”

Dominic Monica, another coach at Oak Hills High School, emphasized the joy Rosales brought to the field and the challenges the team faced in coping with his loss. “He had an infectious smile and was a joy to be around,” Monica recounted. “This tragedy reminds us all to cherish our loved ones and to turn our lives in a positive direction.”

Reports suggest Rosales may have been involved in a transaction with an online buyer when he was shot, though the investigation remains ongoing. This revelation adds another layer of concern for the community, emphasizing the unpredictability of violence.

As the vigil concluded, attendees expressed their determination to carry forward Rosales’ legacy by supporting one another and advocating for a safer community. The gathering served not just as a remembrance but as a call to action for change amidst the tragedy.
