Tirupati, India – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tirupati, India, has strongly criticized the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) for the recent post-poll violence that has shaken the State. BJP State spokesperson G. Bhanuprakash Reddy held a press conference condemning the violent attacks that took place, allegedly orchestrated by YSRCP leaders. He revealed that the attackers used a variety of weapons such as stones, boulders, beer bottles, petrol bombs, cricket bats, and iron rods in their assaults, even with law enforcement present.
Reddy went on to showcase weapons similar to those used in the attacks, underscoring the severity of the situation. He asserted that the attack on the TDP candidate at a university campus, where the strong room is located, highlights a concerning partnership between a section of the police department and the ruling party. Additionally, he applauded the Election Commission of India (ECI) for transferring the police officials responsible for the incident and urged the ECI to take action against those behind the attack.
The spokesperson warned that if the ruling party continues to engage in hooliganism and disregard the voters’ choices, it may face a backlash from the public. He referenced an incident in Tenali where a voter slapped an MLA on polling day as a sign of growing discontent with the ruling party’s behavior. The BJP in Tirupati stands firm against the violence and seeks accountability for those responsible for the attacks.
