Wembley Man Sentenced to 16 Years for Brutal Stabbing Attack on Woman

London, England – A man in Wembley has been sentenced to 16 years in jail for a brutal attack on a woman, which included repeatedly stabbing her and leaving her for dead. Itesh Ira, 35, of Belmont Avenue, Wembley, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and possession of a knife before receiving his sentence last week.

The attack, which took place in a public street, left the victim with severe stab wounds to her face, neck, and body. Emergency services, responding to the incident on September 30, 2022, found the victim barely conscious on the pavement, with a knife that had broken in half due to the force used in the attack.

CCTV footage revealed that Ira had even stamped on the victim’s head while she was lying on the ground, and it was only due to the intervention of a courageous bystander that the injuries were not more severe. Ira later turned himself in at Wembley Police Station and was subsequently arrested.

The victim, who was acquainted with Ira, was hospitalized for several weeks to receive treatment for her injuries, which included multiple lacerations to her face, neck, and body, as well as significant wounds to her head and fractures to her right hand, according to the medical report.

Detective Sergeant Mitesh Mulji described the attack as senseless and horrendous, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to combat violence against women and girls. He commended the victim for her strength and bravery in supporting the prosecution, highlighting her role in preventing Ira from harming others in the future. Additionally, a bystander who intervened during the attack was recognized with a Judge’s Commendation for his bravery in stopping the violent assault and saving the victim’s life.
