Youth Chaos: Violent Attack on Prison Bus Unfolds in Luwero District

Kampala, Uganda – An ordinary journey took a dangerous turn over the weekend when a group of young individuals launched a violent attack on a prisons bus in Zirobwe, Luwero district. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, stemmed from a mobile phone theft in the area.

Prisons spokesman Frank Baine reported that the chaotic events unfolded when warders apprehended a phone thief at a funeral and placed him on the bus to be taken to the nearest police station. However, the situation escalated when a group of youths aimed to take matters into their own hands and sought to physically harm the accused thief.

The warders, who were unarmed at the time, were escorting a colleague to attend a relative’s burial when tensions rose as the youths targeted the bus seeking revenge for the alleged theft. Despite the outnumbering and lack of weapons, the warders managed to defend themselves and take refuge at a nearby police post. The suspect was later handed over to the authorities.

During a press conference at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, Baine described the frightening ordeal, emphasizing the need to address the rising instances of theft and vigilantism in the region. The incident serves as a reminder for the public to avoid taking justice into their own hands and to collaborate with law enforcement agencies for a proper legal resolution.
