Yunus Urges Swift Action from Law Enforcement Following Violent Attack on Election Candidate

Dhaka, Bangladesh — Following a violent attack on a political figure, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus convened an emergency meeting with high-ranking law enforcement officials, calling for swift action against those responsible for the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

During the meeting held at the state guest house Jamuna, Yunus expressed his strong disapproval of the violence, which left Hadi critically injured after being shot in the head by armed assailants in the Paltan area of the capital. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of political candidates in light of the upcoming elections.

Yunus directed law enforcement agencies to expedite their efforts to identify and apprehend the shooters. His office issued a statement encouraging a thorough investigation that includes gathering evidence from the crime scene, interviewing eyewitnesses, and reviewing CCTV footage. The chief adviser stressed the need to determine if there were organized efforts behind the attack.

“The prevalence of violence amid an electoral backdrop is not only unacceptable but also damaging to the integrity of our political processes,” he remarked in a statement. The chief adviser also underscored the importance of public safety during the election period, asserting that any attempt to disrupt the democratic process will be met with stern consequences.

Expressing deep concern for Hadi’s health, Yunus instructed medical personnel to provide the best possible treatment and directed the Ministry of Health to oversee the medical care. He emphasized that it is crucial for authorities to monitor Hadi’s situation and ensure he receives comprehensive support.

In light of the attack, Yunus appealed to all political parties, their supporters, and the general public to exercise restraint and maintain peace as the nation approaches the elections. He reiterated the importance of preserving an environment conducive to free and fair participation in the electoral process.

“No act of violence aimed at hindering the election will be tolerated,” Yunus affirmed. His comments reflect a commitment to not only safeguard the candidates but also to uphold the democratic values essential for the nation’s political climate. The urgency of the situation underscores the critical balance between political expression and public safety in a nation striving for a stable democratic future.
