Firefighter Charged With Felony Assault Following Violent Confrontation Over Teen Prank

LIGHTHOUSE POINT, Fla. — A local firefighter is facing serious allegations after a confrontation with a group of teenagers who reportedly played a harmless prank at his residence. The incident has raised concerns among community members regarding appropriate responses to youthful mischief.

The Lighthouse Point Police Department reported that the event transpired at approximately 9 p.m. on November 23, when Alex Lutz, 31, allegedly reacted violently after a group of teens on a golf cart rang his doorbell—a prank known as “ding dong ditch.” Witnesses claim that Lutz ran out of his home wielding a baseball bat, pursuing the teens who fled in fear.

According to investigators, the situation escalated when Lutz caught up with the group. He reportedly struck both the individuals and the golf cart with the bat. Surveillance footage from the scene captures the chaotic moments, with audio suggesting that the teenagers were terrified as they pleaded for safety.

Authorities confirmed that several teens sustained injuries during the altercation. Lutz turned himself in to law enforcement the following Monday and was later released on bond the afternoon of the next day. He now faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of criminal mischief.

Highland Beach Fire Rescue acknowledged Lutz’s arrest through a public statement, indicating that he has been placed on paid administrative leave while the department conducts an internal investigation into the incident. This situation has sparked discussions about the responsibilities of first responders, particularly regarding their professional conduct outside of their official duties.

As the investigation unfolds, both the community and Lutz’s colleagues await further developments. This incident serves as a troubling reminder of how tensions can escalate, leading individuals to react in ways that have significant legal and personal consequences.
