30-year Prison Sentence Upheld for Man in Sexual Abuse and Murder Case

Busan, South Korea – A man in Busan, South Korea has had his sentence increased to 30 years in prison for the sexual abuse and murder of his girlfriend. The man, in his 30s, had initially received a 25-year sentence but appealed the decision. The Busan High Court made the decision to extend his sentence and imposed additional penalties on him.

In addition to the extended prison term, the court ordered the defendant to undergo 40 hours of treatment for sexual violence. He is also prohibited from working at facilities for juveniles or people with disabilities for a period of 10 years following his release. Furthermore, he will be registered as a sex offender for 20 years.

The tragic incident occurred in February 2024 when a heated argument between the couple escalated into a violent attack by the defendant, resulting in fatal injuries to his girlfriend, who was in her 20s. The defendant proceeded to commit a heinous act of “imitative rape” on the unconscious victim while recording the despicable act.

During the trial, the court highlighted the extreme violence of the defendant’s actions, pointing out his failure to provide aid to the victim when she was injured. The court expressed doubts about the defendant’s remorse, noting his evasion of responsibility and lack of effort to address the harm caused by his actions.

The defendant’s lack of accountability and failure to compensate the victim’s bereaved family were significant factors in the court’s decision to increase his punishment. The case serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of domestic violence and sexual abuse, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. The extended sentence and additional penalties imposed on the defendant reflect the severity of his crimes and provide some measure of justice for the victim and her loved ones.
