Fort Worth, Texas – Chris Brown and Live Nation are currently facing a second lawsuit over an alleged altercation that occurred backstage at a recent concert. The lawsuit, filed by a security guard named Frederick Overpeck, claims he was severely beaten when attempting to intervene in a fight involving Brown and his entourage and four fans. This incident took place at a VIP area during a concert on July 19.
Overpeck’s lawsuit accuses Brown of assault and battery, citing the singer’s past legal troubles, including a highly publicized 2009 attack on Rihanna. The security guard’s attorneys stated, “This R&B performer lacks civility and boldly disregards the life and health of anyone he targets.” Overpeck claims he witnessed Brown and his entourage attacking the four men after Brown was reminded of a past conflict with one of them.
Allegedly, Brown directed his entourage to “fuck em up,” leading to a violent altercation where chairs were thrown and punches were exchanged. Overpeck, in his role as a security guard, tried to de-escalate the situation but was overpowered during the chaos. As a result of the incident, Overpeck suffered severe neck injuries, including a fractured neck that has rendered him unable to work and in need of extensive medical treatment.
In addition to Brown, the lawsuit also names three members of his entourage and Live Nation as defendants. Overpeck’s legal team accuses Live Nation of negligence for failing to protect him despite Brown’s history of violent behavior. The lawsuit is seeking a minimum of $15 million in damages.
The case mirrors claims made in a separate lawsuit filed by the four fans allegedly attacked by Brown – Larry Parker, Joseph Lewis, Charles Bush, and Damarcus Powell. A Houston judge has already issued a temporary restraining order, preventing Brown and others from destroying any videos of the incident and requiring them to preserve such evidence.
Overpeck’s lawyers believe that a video of the altercation exists, stating, “The initial assault, wherein Brown is clearly shown throwing the first punch, is captured on video.” This reinforces their case against Brown and his entourage, highlighting the need for justice and accountability in light of the violent incident at the concert.
