Sonora, California – A Sonora man found himself in custody after a heated argument over his girlfriend led to a violent altercation. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the scene in the 15200 block of Mountain Lilly Road following reports of an axe being thrown during the altercation. The victim identified 36-year-old Chad Allan Koenig as the suspect in the attack, which allegedly began with Koenig using a wrench. The victim stated that Koenig had a sporadic dating relationship with his stepdaughter. When Koenig demanded the victim to bring the woman to him, they refused, prompting Koenig to retrieve a ¾-inch wrench from his vehicle.
As the victim retreated, they grabbed a garden hoe for protection, at which point Koenig reportedly switched the wrench for an axe. Swinging the axe over his shoulder, he struck the victim’s truck, causing significant damage before fleeing the scene. Another witness corroborated the victim’s account of the incident. Deputies apprehended Koenig shortly after, leading to his arrest on charges of felony vandalism and misdemeanor brandishing a weapon other than a firearm.
